ADMISSIONS POLICY REQUIREMENTS
For Pre–Kindergarten (Pre-K):
- To attend Pre-K, a student must be 4 years old on or before September 30, 2012, as verified by an attached copy of the birth certificate.
- The student must currently live in Jefferson Parish as verified by an attached copy of one of the following: driver’s license, state ID, utility bill, or other official document.
Note: Prior report cards or standardized test scores are not required for grades Pre-K through grade 4.
For Kindergarten:
- To attend kindergarten, a student must be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2012, as verified by an attached copy of the birth certificate.
- The student must currently live in Jefferson Parish as verified by an attached copy of one of the following: driver’s license, state ID, utility bill, or other official document.
Note: Prior report cards or standardized test scores are not required for grades Pre-K through grade 4.
Applying for grades 1 through 5:
- A student’s age must be verified by an attached copy of the birth certificate.
- The student must also currently live in Jefferson Parish as verified by an attached copy of one of the following: driver’s license, state ID, utility bill, or other official document.
For Grades 6 through 11
- Residency is verified by an attached copy of one of following: driver’s license, state ID, utility bill, or other official document (does not apply for Patrick Taylor - regional school)
- Final, end of the year report card grade copies for 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 are attached. All final course grades in reading, English, math, science, AND social studies courses are a “C” or higher.
- Standardized test score copies for 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 are attached with scores that include percentiles. The overall composite scores (all subjects tested) are at or above the 85th percentile for 2009/2010 AND 2010/2011.
- Patrick Taylor only: Must score in 85th percentile or higher in Total Science in 2009/2010 AND 2010/2011
- iLEAP, Leap, and/or GEE score copies are attached for 2009/2010 AND 2010/2011. The student has scored a minimum of Mastery in both English Language Arts and Math for both years.
- Patrick Taylor only: A minimum of Mastery in science in each of the years of submitted iLEAP and/or LEAP scores
End of Course (EOC) Test Scores (Grades 9 through 11)
- No rating lower than a “Good” in English AND a math course is indicated on the attached copy of the EOC test results.
Important:
1. Privately administered standardized tests or evaluations are not accepted.
2. A “qualifying score” is defined as any composite score of 85 or higher.
3. Attendance zones have been created for all advanced study academies. An applicant is expected to attend the school in his/her attendance zone.
4. An applicant may list schools outside of his/her attendance zone as a first and second requested choice. However, a student may only attend a school outside of his/her attendance zone if a vacancy exists at the school after all qualified students applying from within the attendance zone are placed. Transfers will be granted only during the first five days of the school year. Transfers are valid until the terminal grade at the school providing all academic and behavior standards are maintained.
5. Transportation will not be provided by the school system to any student residing outside the attendance zone school.
6. Applications will be screened by a committee. Notifications will be forwarded by mail and by phone. Accepted applicants will be given appointments for testing with the notification. Information on an appeals process will also be included in the mailing.
7. A three person committee will hear all appeals at the Application Submission and Screening Phase.
8. Students who satisfy all criteria in the Application Submission and Application Screening Phase will be tested for possible admission into an Advanced Study Academy.
